The collection is the heart and soul of our museum. The basic idea of ​​the presentation is a chronological sequence that makes it possible to get to know the most important movements and styles of art history from the 19th century to the present in the original. In addition, we focus on artists who have a special relationship to Linz and the Lentos, such as VALIE EXPORT and Herbert Bayer. Art history is nothing static, on the contrary, the canon is constantly being rewritten and so there are constant reassessments and rediscoveries. In this way, the museum becomes an instrument for experiencing and understanding art history and leads to the temporary exhibitions, which are primarily devoted to current art.

The focus of the individual collection rooms is on portrait and landscape painting of the 19th century, Secessionism, Expressionism, New Objectivity, Informel, Actionism and contemporary positions.
